Teachers at JCDSRI guide, challenge and support our students; they also encourage them to be active participants in their own learning and in shaping our community. Our curriculum may be progressive, but it is also effective: we know this because our graduates go on to become leaders in other public and private schools and in colleges and universities throughout the country.
Empathy and ethics are at the heart of everything we do. The social and emotional development of our students is as important as their academic growth. Our teachers serve as role models, showing students how to be good listeners, willing collaborators, compassionate friends, and valuable members of a community. We teach problem solving and conflict resolution skills, and families often tell us that our school community is the most welcoming one they’ve ever experienced.
